Compete in the last ZOTAC Quake Live Cup

In October 2009 the ZOTAC Quake Live Cup opened its gates for the very first time for casual as well as professional Quake Live players. Now, 33 months later, ZOTAC had to make a very though decision:

Due to the decreasing number of participants and decreasing interest in Quake Live competitive-wise within the eSports scene, this week’s ZOTAC Cup will be the last for Quake Live. As said, it was a hard but necessary decision to make, in order to preserve the high quality service ZOTAC is providing with their tournaments.

We had the honor to follow a big variety of players from all over the world during the last 2.5 years whilst they battled it out for money and glory. ZOTAC wants to thanks everyone who competed and followed the ZOTAC Quake Live Cup. Stories developed throughout the tournament as we witnessed huge upsets and glorious moments week after week. This is also the time to honor the most successful player of the tournament. By winning a third of all ZOTAC Quake Live Cups, Kevin “strenx” Baéza is the unreachable leader in the Hall of Fame.

So, for the last time, let us load our shotguns, grab some shards and make this final a memory worthwhile. Don’t miss the last opportunity to fight for 100 Euro in the last ZOTAC Quake Live Cup this Sunday!

OMG who told you that if you fall in popularity of tournaments will be less so of course no one will play.

as a regular competitor for some time now I'm very sad about this decision

zotac and the zotac-cup has still a big popularity in the quake scene which is proven by the hundreds of viewers every sunday, maybe there's a chance to do a relaunch after a summer break??!

Do not cover the tournaments I'm like many others want to become better and win. I even order ql going to buy an expensive mouse, and then a shorter belt.

Just signed up today. Please keep Quake around a little longer. Maybe give it like 2 test weeks to see if the popularity grows. If not, drop it.

Frankly, I've checked the WC3 tournament that ran yesterday.

It has over 150 participants each week, making it more popular among competitors, yes.

But when I checked the only featured stream in the grid stages (bracket was updated to semifinals), it had 90 viewers...

Now Quake Live Zotac Cup easily gets 4 digit number of viewers practically each week. Those are people that don't compete, but are still exposed to your brand. And funnily enough, I've learned about some of your products because the caster was showing brackets on the stream.

And don't forget strenx (same one who won 1/3rd of all QL Zotac Cups) mentioning this cup and calling it simply "Zotac" in all kinds of interviews. That's still publicity :)

This week I'm going to compete for the first time. Even if you don't reconsider canceling this cup, thank you Zotac and all the good admins (esp. Legie and Donathan) for this good run. It was a great ride and it has become a nice filler of lazy Sunday afternoons for so many of us.

Thanks to the casters (Holysh1t TV team for starting this, Level Up TV, HoQ TV, all the Russian streams and easily my favorite, The Beard TV). And to nsx and wn, guys who gave us notifications about streams and contributed to our habit of watching when we're not playing.

Zotac Cup will live in our hearts.

As usual, over 2000 viewers for semis and the final (streams combined). Clearly "decreasing interest", as opposed to 2-digit number of viewers for WC3 cups? I really feel you looked at the wrong numbers...

Anyways. Farewell, Zotac!
